Full Day Preschool

A Typical Day

Arrival: Children engage in quiet activities as the day begins. Cereal, juice and milk are offered to children.

Child Initiated Play Indoors: Free choice spontaneous play takes place in two adjoining rooms. Children choose from activities that include dramatic play, blocks, creative art, sensory area, library, writing table, science, and listening area. A mid-morning snack is offered to all children.

Clean Up time: children learn when it's time to stop an activity and put away toys and materials.

Group Time: Children learn songs and finger plays. Teachers read to children using a variety of materials. Reading and language arts games enhance listening skills, memory, comprehension, and phonemic awareness.

Outdoor Play: Physical outdoor activities are provided on playground equipment. Additional equipment is provided for planned activities and to encourage creative play.

Lunch: Lunch eaten together encourages communication among children and teachers, use of self-help skills and opportunities to practice table manners.

Quiet Time: children rest on cots for 1 -2 hours. Teachers take breaks, complete paperwork, plan future activities.

Child Initiated Play Indoors: Snack is available. Children choose from a variety of available activities. Some morning activities are repeated for those who want to explore in depth.

Afternoon Active Play: Children play outdoors or in the Activity Center (in inclement weather).

End of Day Routines: As children gradually leave for the day, areas of the classroom are cleaned, organized and re-set for the coming day.
